Wir sind traurig und geschockt.
Es fällt uns schwer, die richtigen Worte zu finden - Nicht genug damit, dass Micha nicht mehr unter uns ist, es ging noch weiter - folgende Zeilen erreichten uns per myspace-Bulletin:
Die Cottbusser Szene ist geschockt: Bei einem tragischen Unfall starb am Dienstagmorgen Michael Welzel (Foto, 25). Der sympathische Ladenbetreiber und rührige Veranstalter, der einst Cottbuser Bürgermeister werden wollte und in der Lokalpolitik aktiv war, fiel in einen Schacht am Carl-Blechen-Carré.
Schlimmer noch: Am Dienstagabend überfielen Rechtsradikale seine Trauerfeier in der Marie 23.
Etwa 50 Freunde und Bekannte des stadtbekannten und in der Lokalpolitik aktiven Michael Welzel trafen sich am Abend in seiner Lieblingskneipe Marie 23 , um des jungen Mannes zu gedenken. Unter den Trauernden waren auch die Eltern des Verstorbenen. Gegen 21 Uhr krachte es. Scheiben gingen zu Bruch. Gäste flohen auf den Hinterhof. 20 bis 30 zum Teil vermummte Männer, die offenbar der regionalen Hooligan und Neonazi-Szene zuzuordnen sind, griffen die Kneipe in der Cottbuser Marienstraße mit Steinen und Flaschen an.
Die Betreiber der Kneipe konnten noch rechtzeitig die Räume verschließen und verhinderten so Schlimmeres. Gäste und Leute von der Marie 23 sind sich sicher, dass der Überfall mit der Trauerfeier im Zusammenhang steht. Micha äußerte immer offen seine Meinung gegen Rechtsradikalismus. Kneipenbetreiber Ulli ist fassungslos: “Das war hier ein Treffen von ganz korrekten Leuten. So etwas macht man einfach nicht.” Auch er glaubt, dass der Überfall geplant war.
Die Polizei war schnell zur Stelle. Nach Angaben von Polizeisprecher Berndt Fleischer zeigten sich die Gäste des Lokals bei der Befragung “unkooperativ”. Diese widersprechen jedoch: Angeblich seien sogar Autokennzeichen an die Polizei gegeben worden. Verletzt wurde bei dem Überfall nach Polizeiangaben niemand. Die Polizei ermittelt laut Fleischer wegen Landfriedensbruchs.
Des weiteren wurde laut Indymedia ausserdem in der Nacht von Donnerstag auf Freitag auch noch ein Überfall auf Micha’s Szeneladen verübt.
Wir würden uns über zahlreiches Erscheinen freuen. Ob Ihr Micha kanntet oder nicht - wenn ihr Solidarität zeigen wollt, dann kommt. Jedes Mitgefühl und jede Unterstützung wird jetzt gebraucht. Der Erlös des Konzertes wird Michas Familie zugute kommen.

Solidarity-Gig for Micha, Nazi assault in Cottbus
We are sad and shocked. It is still hard for us, to find the right words - not enough that Micha is not with us anymore, there was still more to happen.
The following lines reached us in a myspace-bulletin:
“The Cottbus scene is shocked. Michael Welzel (25 years, see picture) was killed in a tragic accident on Tueseday morning. The sympathic shop manager and active concert organizer, who once wanted to become Cottbus’ mayor and was active in local politics, fell into a building pit at Carl-Blechen-Carré.
But even worse: On Tueseday night right wing extremists assaulted his memorial ceremony at the local bar Marie 23. Around 50 friends and acquaintances of the notorious Michael Welzel assembled in the evening at his favourite bar, Marie 23, to remember the young man. Between the mourners were also the parents of the deceased. Around 9 pm there was the sound of a crash, windows bursted, guests escaped to the backyard. 20 to 30 partly disguised men, who obviously can be allocated to the local Hooligan and neo-Nazi scene, assaulted the Bar at Cottbus’ Marienstrasse with stones and bottles. The bar personnel could lock the doors in time and averted the worse. Guests and employees of Marie 23 are certain about the fact, that the assault is connected to the memorial ceremony. Micha always openly expressed his opinion against right wing extremism. The bar’s owner Ulli is stunned: “This was a meeting of proper people. You simply don’t do things like that.” He also believes that the assault was planned.
The police was on the spot quickly. According to police spokesman Berndt Fleischer the guests of the bar were “uncooperative”. They are contrary to that - allegedly they even handed licence plate information to the police. According to the police no one was injured in the assault. According to Fleischer the police is investigating on violation of the public peace.

According to Indymedia there also happened an assault on Micha’s shop in the night of last Thursday.
We would be grateful for a large attendance of the concert this Friday. Wheter you knew Micha or not - if you want to show solidarity show up. Any display of compassion and support is needed now. The profit of the concert will be donated to Micha’s family.
